Grappers pick up first win

GRAPPENHALL picked up their first win of the season in the Chapel Press Cheshire County League when they won by three wickets at Timperley.
The home side were dismissed for a modest 133, Gary Burns taking 3-17 and Chris Park 3-32. Skipper Steve Titchard claimed 2-21.
Grappenhall replied with 135-7, Liam Parkinson hitting 36 and Park ending on 35 not out.
Grappenhall 2nd went down by seven wickets to Timperley at Broad Lane.
Batting first, they were tumbled out for 112, H Worley 22. Timperley replied with 115-3.
Warrington were denied victory by Cheadle Hulme’s last wicket pair – but at least avoided defeat for the first time this season. They batted first at Walton Lea and reached 196-5, opener Malcolm Agar carrying his bat for 111. The visitors were hanging on at 174-9 at the close, Steve Carlile taking 3-55..
In the Meller Braggins Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park were able to declared on 157-9 entertaining Alderley Park. But the visitors took the honours with 161-2.
Stretton found runs hard to get and eventually declared rather optimistically on 109-7 when they entertained Pott Shrigley. The visitors coasted to 110-4.
In the Cheshire Alliance, Appleton suffered a mauling at the hands of Rylands in a low-scoring “derby” clash at Lyons Lane.
Appleton were dismissed for 42 with Sean Malone taking 5-14 , Adam Peters 3-18 and Mark Green 2-8.
Rylands looked to be in trouble when they replied, slumping from 26 without loss to 39-5. But they recovered to reach 45-6. Peter Knowles top scored with 20 while Tom Lomas, 2-26 and Ed Sygrove, 2-9, picked up the wickets.
Appleton 2nd won by 27 runs against Ellesmere Port. Andy Peters hit 37, Gareth Bailey 36 and Steve Reece 22 as Appleton reached 131-7 declared. Then Stuart Bate took 3-24, Chris Clellan 3-23 and Pete Worrall 3-22 as Ellesmere Port were dismissed for 104.
Appleton 4th were dismissed for 68 by Rylands 2nd who took the honours with 69-6.
Paceman David Acton took 5-40 for Glazebury at Saughall as the home side hit 159-8 declared. But Glazebury’s batsmen could not get to grips with the home side’s attack and were back in the pavilion for a paltry 54.
Glazebury 3rd could reach only 96 against Whitefield, despite a flamboyant 50 from David Nicholson. But it was almost enough for victory – Whitefield lost nine wickets reaching their target with Nicholson completing a fine personal performance with 3-36. Chris Ayre took 3-22 and Paul Charlton 3-21.
