FOUR women from Warrington are in the running to be crowned “Cheshire Woman of the Year.”
They are Daphne Eastburn and Helen Newlove, nominated in the Community Service category and Tina Dutton and Andrea Winders, nominated in the Professional Achievement and Community Service categories.
They are among 60 women nominated from across Cheshire and the Wirral who are said to have shown personal courage, achieved outstanding professional success, or given service to their community.
They have all been invited to attend a special lunch today (Wednesday) when the overall winner will be announced and presented with a silver salver.
The annual event aims to reward worthy women with the recognition they deserve. It also raises money for the NSPCC to help run projects for children, young people and families who need help and support.
These include parenting and family support services in Cheshire, a child protection team based at Henry Street in Warrington and the NSPCC Young People’s Centre in Warrington.
Proceeds from this year’s event will go towards the recently launched Child’s Voice Appeal which aims to raise £50 million over three years to help transform ChildLine and the NSPCC Helpline to answer many more children’s cries for help.
Rachel Carter, NSPCC community fundraising manager said: “Well done to the nominees across the region for all their tremendous achievements. This award is a celebration of the wonderful attributes and skills of women across the region, a way of paying tribute to all of them and giving them the recognition they deserve.”
Daphne Eastburn is a well-known community worker at Culcheth, who has been involved in fund-raising for the Methodist Church and other organisations.
Helen Newlove is the widow of murder victim Garry Newlove. Tina Dutton and Andrea Winders run a controversial women-only private hire car firm.
