WORK will start next week on a state-of-the-art synthetic sports pitch – the first of its type in Warrington
Sports stars and civic dignitaries will meet at Birchwood High School on Wednesday, April 29, for a turf-lifting ceremony to mark the start of work on the third generation synthetic pitch.
Warrington Wolves’ first team coach Jimmy Lowes, director of youth development John Bastion and player performance manager Ben Lazenby will be lifting the first piece of turf.
The pitch, constructed by Thornton Contracts, will provide full size soccer and hockey pitches, a junior Rugby League pitch and three training pitches.
It will be used by the school and the local community and the school will operate a partnership with Wolves to locate the club’s scholarship programme at the school from September.
The work will mark the first phase of a multi-million £ investment by the Learning and Skills Council which will culminate in the opening of a new Post 16 learning centre, Birchwood College, in September next year.
