THERE was a full turn out of emergency services this afternoon near the Warburton toll bridge, near Warrington, after reports of a man plunging into the Manchester Ship Canal.
A police helicopter, fire engines and ambulances were sent to the scene and a rescue boat was launched on the canal.
A passerby had reported seeing a man falling, or jumping, into the water, describing the clothing he was wearing and even the man’s appearance.
Fire Service officers used a thermal imaging camera and eventually a man matching the description given earlier was discovered on the canal towpath, apparently unharmed and not having been in the water.
Officers are now speaking to the man.
