UNIVERSITY expertise will help tackle the impact of the recession in Warrington by giving businesses extra help.
Funding of £168,322 has been given to the University of Chester – including its Warrington campus – to help steer business and graduates in Cheshire and Warrington through the credit crunch.
The project will see the university working with Job Centre Plus (JCP) to use university expertise to boost business, and allow small and medium businesses to take advantage of specialist skills.
Under the scheme an intensive postgraduate course in Business, Innovation and Development will be offered. JCP staff will automatically direct new graduates to this programme.
New work placements in priority industrial and commercial companies will be offered to recent graduates and will include product development, customer market analysis and developing marketing plans.
One-to-one coaching and career planning will be offered to graduates, improving employability.
Professor Tim Wheeler, university vice-chancellor, said: “The University of Chester has long embraced its clear role in fostering the establishment and growth of companies; in working with existing companies both on the application of the latest technology and the successful application of more tried and tested technologies and in working with business to develop the skills of the workforce at technical and professional levels.”
He said the programme would be funded to operate over the next 18 months, after which it would become self-sustaining.
