Care home plan thrown out

A PLANNING inspector has thrown out proposals for a three-storey care home in London Road, Appleton.
He ruled that the scheme at 185-187 London Road would encroach into a tree protection zone and pose a real threat to the long term health and vigour of protected lime trees.
Council planning officers refused permission for the scheme last October but developers Villafont appealed against their decision.
Now the Government appointed planning inspector has backed the council’s stance.
In addition to the threat to the trees, he says the view of the proposed building from Broomfields Road would be out of scale with houses there and the loss of a stone wall fronting the A49 would be a strong supporting reason for resiting the scheme.
In addition, there is no provision for cycle parking, the travel plan is inadequate and there is no contribution to infrastructure costs.
A Town Hall spokesman said the inspector had supported officers’ views on the trees, design of the building and transport and travel issues.
