Where were our MPs? asks councillor

WARRINGTON’S MPs have been criticised for failing to vote on a Parliamentary Bill aimed at ending fuel poverty.
Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary candidate for Warrington South Jo Crotty is asking where MPs Helen Jones and Helen Southworth were during the vote.
Coun Crotty (pictured) said the vital bill was just 11 votes short of the number needed to make progress. She said just one in 10 Conservative MPs and one in 14 Labour MPs were in Parliament to support the Bill, and that although almost three quarters of Lib Dems were present it was not enough to win.
Coun Crotty said: “The Fuel Poverty Bill was ‘talked out’ by the Government because not enough MPs turned up to support it. It needed 100 MPs but it only got 89.
“This is a disgrace when millions of people across Britain, including many Warrington residents are struggling to afford to heat their homes.”
She said with such a narrow margin of failure it was “disappointing” that local MPs “could not be bothered to show up” in Parliament to support it.
The bill would deliver a nationwide home insulation programme which would halve the energy needed to heat the average home, she said, and would end the “scandal” of those who use pre-pay meters paying higher rates for gas and electricity.
