Council quiz on dementia

A FORMER councillor is to ask questions at tonight’s borough council meeting about Warrington’s ability to deal with patients suffering from dementia.
Ann Haddow – originally a Labour member for the Fairfield and Howley ward, who quit the party and sat as an Independent until last year – will quiz the council under the provision for members of the public to ask questions.
She will refer to the recent report of the neglect of patients at Stafford Hospital and a report by the Council for Health and Social Care which suggested that one third of residential care homes licensed to take on the care of dementia patients do not have any trained staff to look after them.
Mrs Haddow will ask: “What provision has Warrington Borough Council and its associated health bodies, the Primary Care Trust and North Cheshire Hospitals NHS Trust, made to ensure that adequate training is being provided in dementia and other health care?”
She will also ask was provision is being made for regular monitoring and inspection in order to ensure that there is no such lack of knowledge and care in Warrington, now or in the future.
