Voluntary groups urged to bid for cash

COMMUNITY groups in Warrington with an annual income of less than £30,000 can apply for a grant from a new local fund.
Almost £70,000 has been awarded to the Warrington community from the Grassroots Grants scheme since its launch in September. Grants are between £250 and £5,000.
Among those benefitting from recent grants are the John Holt Cancer Support Foundation, Tiny Bears Mums and Tots Group and Stockton Heath Festival Trust.

Nigel Bacon, chief executive of Warrington Council for Voluntary Service (CVS), said: “Warrington is full of small groups and individuals who work tirelessly to tackle local problems.
“We are one of only 67 funders who are issuing Grassroots Grants and we are working tirelessly to ensure that we can continue to give Grants to the community after 2011.”
Tudor Pole, chairman for Stockton Heath Festival Trust, said: “We are grateful for the money from the Grassroots Grants as it will allow us to hire a marquee for the week’s events. If we had not got the funding, we would have been limited in what we could have done at the festival.
“We are now able to build on the success of last year’s event and make it even bigger and better.”
The CVS is urging local people and businesses to invest in the community by contributing to the grass roots. The fund is boosted by match funding from the Government.
