Chaos on M6 after tanker crash spills waste chemicals

TRAFFIC is piling up in the Warrington area after the M6 motorway was closed in both directions following a crash involving a tanker and a heavy lorry.
About 18,000 litres of waste chemicals spilled onto the northbound carriageway after the crash near Knutsford Services, between Junctions 18 and 19.
Two people are reported injured – although neither is thought to be serious.
Traffic is piled-up along the motway as far back as Woolston and, as a result, there is heavy traffic on other roads in the Warrington area.
Three fire engines are at the scene, along with police, Highways England and paramedics.
It is thought the motorway will not be re-opened before 7.30pm and police are advising motorists to avoid the area if at all possible.
