BRITISH Transport police are investigating following an incident on the railway near Warrington early this morning.
Officers were called to the scene, near Sankey Station, after a train driver reported that he might have hit something on the track shortly before 7am. He carried out an emergency stop and raised the alarm. But a search was carried out and nothing was found.
Trains were delayed for more than hour as a result of the alert.
Normal services had been resumed by 8.30am.
An ambulance was sent to Warrington Central Station in case someone had been hurt but was not required.
