PLANS for a hot food takeaway have been given the go-ahead by Warrington planners despite furious opposition from local residents.
The borough’s development control committee approved the proposal to open the takeaway in a shop previously used by a meat wholesalers in Martin Avenue, Orford.
More than 60 nearby residents had opposed the scheme – and local councillor Steve Roberts had also objected.
They was concerned that the shop was in a row of four terraced, commercial properties, two of which were already takeaways.
Planning officers conceded that a “cluster” of similar uses could have an impact on the area but pointed out that increased business competition was not a material consideration for members to look at. They did not believe an additional takeaway would have a serious adverse effect on the area, provided appropriate conditions were imposed.
They believed the majority of customers using the shop would arrive on foot, due to proximity of a large, residential area.
Strict conditions were imposed to ensure neighbours did not suffer from noise or odour problems.
