WARRINGTON car wash worker Rabar Mala was today remanded in custody for three weeks charged with possession of property for the purposes of terrorism.
Mala, an Iraqi Kurd, of Gough Avenue, Longford was accused of supplying hundreds of Sim cards to foreign jihadists to enable them to set up social media accounts to spread Isis propaganda.
He was charged under Section 16 of the Terrorism Act and Westminster Magistrates Court was told it was the first time anyone had been prosecuted under this section of the act.
The court heard that Mala was found with 437 Sim cards when police raided his home on August 20.
It was alleged he had activated hundreds of Sim cards over the last two years which were then passed on to fighters in Iraq and Syria.
The cards allowed them to open Twitter and Facebook accounts to target new recruits.
Mala was remanded in custody until September 21 when he will appear at the Old Bailey.
