Far from the Madding Crowd – in Warrington

CREAMFIELDS this was not. Nor Market Gate, nor Sankey Street nor any other part of the busy town centre. This was a different face of Warrington over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Hardly a soul in sight. Hardly a sound, other than birdsong or the rustle of a squirrel or some other creature in the undergrowth. The gentle ripple of the Mersey.
The busy A57 Manchester Road was on the doorstep, but its noise was blanked out.
This was Paddington Meadows and the New Cut Heritage and Ecology Trail over the weekend – deserted other than for a handful of dog-walkers, joggers, cyclists and nature lovers.
A haven for those who value peace and quiet.
As usual, it didn’t cost a penny to visit it.
