TWO teams of 20 men and women taking part in LiveWire and Warrington Wolves’ Fit to Tackle programme have managed to lose an incredible 55 stone between them.

The two groups have recently completed the 18th Fit to Tackle programme , shedding the weight, thanks to the rugby themed sports activities and nutritional advice provided.

Over the last 12 weeks, they’ve been put through the paces with up-to three sessions a week of intense training at both the Halliwell Jones Stadium and Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub.

This has enabled at least 35 of the participants to lose at least five per cent of their body weight.

They also dramatically improved their fitness during the course, with all participants completing a half-mile run at least one minute faster in the final week of the programme compared to the first week.

The programme is not just about exercise and nutrition, State of Mind – a mental health sports charity – also visited during the programme to raise awareness of issues with mental wellbeing amongst sportsmen and women.

Paul Corless, a coach on the programme, said: “We’ve seen an incredible weight loss on this Fit to Tackle programme.

“The participants worked amazingly hard to reach their targets and really enjoyed all of the activities provided.

“We’ve seen so many people on this programme work closely together as a team and make long-lasting friendships with people who were strangers 12 weeks ago.

“The other coaches, Tom, Matt, Rachel and I are really proud of what they’ve achieved.

“Hopefully they’ve now got all the skills necessary to lead a happy and healthy lifestyles.”
