Study trip to Egypt

A PARTY of Warrington students made Egypt their home for a week as part of a once-in-a-life-time opportunity to study a country rich in religious and sociological history.
Twenty six students from Priestley College flew out of Manchester with the city of Sharm el Sheikh their first destination for a range of activities including visiting the Church of St Catherine, the Burning Bush and the Well of Moses.
After also visiting the city of Dahab the group then flew on to Cairo, where among other attractions, they visited the National Museum and took a breathtaking boat trip down the Nile. Later on in their action packed journey they also took in trips to the Pyramids, Sphinx and Saqqara as well as the Khan el-Khalili Bazaar.
A jeep safari was also completed, before perhaps the most special part of the trip as the students travelled to the middle of the Sinai Desert to spend the evening with the native Bedouin community. Here they travelled into camp by camel before witnessing traditional entertainment in the form of Tanura and belly dancing.
Student Cat Atherton who is currently studying A Level Religion and Philosophy, said: “The highlight for me was seeing the Pyramids both at night and day. I really enjoyed the activities like the jeep safari and camel rides, as well as getting an idea of the Egyptian culture by visiting the various market places and taking part in the Bedouin evening”.
