Hosts wanted for Chernobyl children

FAMILIES are being sought in the Warrington area to host children from the area affected by the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear reaction disaster.
The explosion at the plant changed the lives of millions of Belarusian and Ukrainian people and the Burtonwood-based charity Chernobyl Children Life Line aims to help those affected and to show that people really do care.
Over the years, the charity has made it possible for more than 42,000 children to visit Britain for respite from their contaminated environment.
Financial help has also been given to specialist hospitals and orphanages in Belarus.
Several community projects have improved lives in many of the hardest hit villages.
A group of 12 children from Belarus or the Ukraine, aged 10-11 years, will be staying with host families locally for one month from mid-July.
Charity organisers in Burtonwood are currently raising funds and putting together an exciting programme of events for the youngsters.
Chairman Colin Frodsham said: “If you think you can help by hosting a child or providing some financial help for the visit then the charity would love to hear from you.”
Colin can be contacted on 01925 221614.
