Students want to make the grade

A LEVEL geology students from Warrington have been out on fieldwork trips to complete coursework assignments critical to their final grades this summer.
The students from Priestley College first headed for Heysham Point near Morecambe to practice their fieldwork abilities.
They were charged with producing an evolutionary timeline of the area based on the fossils found and a detailed investigation into the structure of rocks.
After completing these trials as a team, the students then had to go it alone, the week later, with a visit to a former limestone quarry near Clitheroe.
This was the location at which they were then assessed and graded for their geological skills in collecting data, sketching and mapping.
Tutor Kevin Smith said: “The students enjoyed the opportunity to demonstrate their excellent fieldwork skills and were able to see real life examples of the fossils that have been studied in the classroom.”
