SHOPPERS will be invited to “go bananas” at Warrington’s Golden Square shopping centre tomorrow (Saturday) as part of a nationwide attempt to set a new world record for the number of people eating a Fairtrade banana over a 24-hour period.
The attempt will take place near the Alice in Wonderland statue in the Old Market Place, starting at 11am.

Square is working together with the Warrington Fairtrade Steering Group to encourage as many people as possible to attend the event that promotes a fairer deal for farmers producing food all over the world.
Bananas are a great source of vitamin B6, and they help healthy bowels, protection from ulcers and they are known for boosting energy.
Golden Square spokesman Ian Cox said: “Working with local community groups and charities is an important part of what Golden Square is about so we’re pleased to be able to host ‘Go Bananas’ with the Fairtrade organisation.
“The event will be a light-hearted fun way to raise awareness of a serious issue and if we help to smash a world record and make history then all the better!”
Warrington is a Fairtrade Town meaning that it has made a commitment to supporting Fairtrade and using products with the Fairtrade mark.
