Store loses planning battle

TESCO have lost a planning battle over the right to erect two externally illuminated advertisements at their store in Winwick Road, Warrington.
Borough planners refused permission for the 6m X 4.8m signs last year but the company appealed.
Now a planning inspector has dismissed the appeal.
He has ruled that the signs would be sited on one the few landscaped areas in Winwick Road which form a “pleasant green interlude” in an otherwise urban location.
In addition, they are of substantial size and would result in “advertisement excess.”
A borough council spokesman said the decision confirmed the council’s view that the size of the signs and their prominent location on an important route would be obtrusive and visually discordant.
