What it means to be an immigrant

POLES Apart is a unique show about a 2,000 mile adventure from the UK to Poland. It’s the story of two nations who have fought together, worked together and now live together.
It will be staged at Warrington’s Pyramid arts centre on Thursday, March 19.
Written and directed by Mark Whiteley, Poles Apart traces the footsteps of thousands of Polish workers who have come to the UK since 2004.
An estimated 600,000 Poles have come to the UK since 2004 – maybe more. Mark wanted to reverse that trend and travel over to Warsaw to find employment.
On August 21 last year, Mark and actor, Daniel Hoffman-Gill, set off on the trip to Poland.
Mark bought a car for £600 from an auction and left Manchester for his 24-hour drive through France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. Dan, the seasoned traveller, took to the skies and flew from London on a budget airline.
Using video footage, photographs and fantastic facts from the theatrical odyssey, the unique blend of entertaining, comedy storytelling gives an idea of what it means to be an immigrant in the world today.
