MPs express concern over town’s hospital services

WARRINGTON’S two MPs have got together to issue a joint expression of concern about services being moved away from the town’s hospital.

Helen Jones, MP for Warrington North and Faisal Rashid, MP for Warrington South, have spoken out following the announcement that stroke patients will be taken to Whiston hospital for emergency treatment instead of being dealt with at Warrington Hospital.

Ms Jones said: “There is no doubt that hyper-acute stroke units produce better outcomes for patients but I question why this investment is not being made in Warrington.

“Services are being removed from our hospital one after another and we are suffering death by a thousand cuts. “

Cllr Rashid said: “I am very concerned that there has been no proper consultation on this issue.

“Neither MPs nor the borough council were consulted and all we are offered is a programme of ‘engagement’- not consultation.  This is not a respectful or appropriate way to treat the residents of Warrington.”

Warrington Clinical Commissioning Group  is curently running a public consultation on proposals to move the Stroke services to Whiston Hospital as previously reported by warrington-worldwide CLICK HERE

But both MPs said that it seemed that the decision had already been made and they wanted to know why the decision not to invest in Warrington had been taken and who had taken it.

  1. Team working Helen- that’s the way forward. Although it may not be enough to keep you in the seat it’s a good example to set to your eventual replacement whoever that may be. Two Labour MP’s working constructively with a Labour council with pettiness and point scoring being sidelined in favour of more constructive and collegiate working for the benefit of residents. One or two maybe saying with a degree of cynicism that this new (but admittedly welcome) approach is purely down to you desperately attempting to save your skin with local members as another election is maybe less than a year away. And that you are hanging onto the coat tails of Faisal who is proving to be a popular and visible choice already. But I welcome this change of direction, so you are to be congratulated
