FOUR girls from Warrington’s Beamont Collegiate Academy were given the opportunity to watch current FA Women’s Super League champions Manchester City in action.
The girls from Years 7 and 8  were special guests at City’s Academy Stadium when the City women took on Yeovil Town and defeated them 5-1.
They were accompanied by Beamont vice principal Gareth Harris and teacher Shelley Coley and hosted by Graeme Lovelady, business director at Hays Education in Warrington – the official recruitment partner of Manchester City Women.
Mr Harris said: “The atmosphere at the game was fantastic, and particularly inspiring for young females watching. It demonstrates the vast opportunities open to them in a sport which has been traditionally male dominated.”
Ms Coley said: “It was great to be able to take some pupils to see the game, and it was the first time myself and the students had seen Manchester City Women play. The atmosphere inside the stadium was exciting, and the fans were really enthusiastic and supportive. The team produced a high quality performance with some excellent goals, We will definitely be back to watch them again soon.”
Mr Lovelady said: “Our partnership with Manchester City Women allows us to share a great experience for local schools we already work with, providing students with the opportunity to watch the leading women’s football team. As this is the beginning of our partnership with the club, we’re looking forward to discussing more innovative ideas.”
