Planners asked to overrule experts

MEMBERS of Warrington’s development control committee were asked to overrule their own officers on the issue of a single storey home extension.
Coun Pauline Nelson ased the committee to approve the proposed front extension at a semi-detached bungalow in Kinsale Drive, Birchwood.
Officers claimed the extension will be an incongruous, harmful feature in the street, contrary to policies in the council’s development plan.
But Coun Nelson supported the application – and there were no objections from neighbours.
Officers admitted the extension would have no undue impact on neighbours, nor off-street parking and complemented the scale of the existing dwelling.
But they said because it was forward of the main building line for the street, it had a prominent location and would result in a harmful, obtrusive feature.
