Victims are at the heart of policing priorities

POLICE and Crime Commissioner David Keane says he is continuing to focus on putting victims at the heart of Cheshire’s policing priorities.

Working alongside the police, he is committed to making sure victims are fully informed and supported from the moment a crime takes place through to the end of the process, whatever the outcome may be.

The Cheshire Victim Information Pack, which is funded by the Commissioner, helps with this and through work between the Commissioner and the police it has been improved to reflect feedback from residents.

The information has been updated in the new look pack which now also includes Augmented Reality, enabling the booklet to come to life through video technology. This helps by making the information more accessible and more engaging for the reader ensuring they are fully informed.

Additionally within the videos, key areas of information have been translated into languages such as Romanian and Kurdish.

The design is intended to be easier to use for both officers when supporting victims of crime and for victims so they can access the information they need quickly and is available for all victims of crime online as well as in in booklet form.

Mr Keane said: “I have set a clear commitment that policing in Cheshire will put victims first. The Victim Information Pack plays a crucial role in ensuring if you are unfortunate enough to become a victim you understand your rights. The pack has been designed to assist Cheshire residents in finding support and services that are available to help you cope and recover from the experience of being a victim of crime and explain what will happen next following reporting.

“The addition of spoken sections and translations means that more people can access the information they need and the use of Augmented Reality brings the format into the 21st Century.”

Head of the Criminal Justice Department Jon Betts, added: “The Victim Information Pack is an excellent tool for helping victims understand the process and help direct them to the specialist help and support if they need it.

“The addition of the videos within the pack enables the booklet to come to life making it more accessible and more engaging for the reader ensuring they are fully informed.”

  1. One more thing. This press release should at the very least have been subject to some editorial control before publication. You can’t state for a fact what he is or isn’t prioritising, just what he claims to be.

  2. I just wish David Keane would put the Nolan principles at the heart of his policing priorities instead of disregarding them entirely, by his own behaviour. Were he to do so people just might start to have some trust in him and what he says he stands for. Moreover, until he does, the office he currently occupies will remain tarnished.
