Lib Dems pledge to provide £6 billion a year for NHS

LIBERAL Democrats in Warrington are backing the party’s national pledge to provide an extra £6 billion a year for the NHS and Social Care.
The money would come from an extra penny on income tax, they say.
In Warrington, the tax would provide an additional £24 million a year, with £16 million for the NHS Clinical Commissioning Group and £8 million for social care.
According to an ITV poll last October, 70 per cent of Britons would pay an extra 1p in every pound if that money was guaranteed to go to the NHS.
Cllr Bob Barr, the Parliamentary Candidate for Warrington South, said: “The Liberal Democrats are prepared to be honest with people and say that to secure the future of the NHS we will all need to chip in a little more.  A penny in the

pound would allow us to invest in improving local NHS services and ensuring the elderly receive the care they deserve.
“This Conservative government has left our health and care services chronically underfunded – and while the crisis gets worse they just don’t seem to care.
“Some believe that they are intentionally forcing many to use private health care to grow the ‘for-profit’ part of the industry.  We cannot continue asking the system to deliver more and more, without giving it the resources to do so.”
Cllr Stefan Krizanac, the Parliamentary Candidate for Warrington North added: “The NHS was once the envy of the world and this pledge is the first step in restoring it to where it should be.  But simply providing more money on its own is not enough and that’s why this is just the first part of our five step long-term plan to protect health and care services.
“We also need to do much more to keep people fit and healthy and out of hospital.  This new funding will be targeted at those areas which have the greatest impact on patient care such as general practice, mental health, public health and social care.”

  1. what about free parking at the hospitals? I know certain LibDems are all for free parking, even when he overstays and gets a ticket he can use his position to wheedle out of paying the fine 😉

  2. some of the highest costs of the health service are the exorbitant prices of drugs / medical supplies. Note no mention of curtailing these ludicrous contracts or preventing sections of the health services being taken over by expensive private management companies.
Will increased taxation actually benefit us or is this just another means of robbing the people to profit the mega rich?

  3. Will this pledge be as long lasting and honoured as your pledge on tuition fees? You remember that Charter don’t you? The one you ripped up and discarded for 5 minutes of pretend power with your lords and masters in the Tory party. The word of the LIBDems, not to be taken seriously under any circumstances
