Last chance for a say on street drinking

0

A WIDE-ranging public consultation on the issue of street drinking in Warrington closed on Sunday – but there is still time for people to air their views.
The consultation on an alcohol Public Space Protection Order (PSPO)  is part of Warrington Borough Council and Warrington Community Safety Partnership’s wider work to improve safety in public spaces.
Council chiefs have already received a large amount of feedback about the proposals, which aim to address the issue of anti-social behaviour caused by drinking. The council is encouraging everyone who would like to have a say but hasn’t done so yet to get involved, before the consultation ends.
If introduced, the PSPO would serve as an update to Warrington’s currently active “Alcohol Consumption in Designated Public Place Order”. This existing order, which expires in October, covers most of the borough, supporting the work to tackle alcohol-related anti-social behaviour.
The consultation is asking the public if they would like to see a PSPO for the entire borough, or for specific “zones” within Warrington where there is police evidence of persistent alcohol-related anti-social behaviour.
Zones identified   following a comprehensive evaluation carried out by the council and Cheshire Police are:
1. Stockton Heath Village Centre
2. Lymm Village The Cross
3. Latchford Village
4. Orford Park
5. Santa Rosa Boulevard
6. Birchwood Shopping Centre
7. Mary Ann Meadows and Asda, Westbrook
8. Town Centre and Orford Lane
The seven-week consultation began on  March 14 and ends at 5pm on Sunday.
To contribute to the consultation, visit www.warrington.gov.uk/consultation, email [email protected] or write to Warrington Borough Council, New Town House, Business Intelligence Service, Buttermarket Street, Warrington WA1 2NH.
Details of the results will be published on the council’s website.
