Budding detectives get ready – crime season coming to Penketh Library

PENKETH Library is swapping books for forensic reports, witness statements, and police handcuffs as it embarks on a season of crime and detection to delight amateur sleuths.

The library is staging three crime-related events over the coming weeks, starting with a murder mystery evening based on the thriller, Bannocks and Blood, written by Ann Cleeves, one of Britain’s most successful crime fiction novelists.

The season gets under way with the live action murder mystery on Thursday April 27 from 6.30pm to 8pm and tickets cost £2 from all LiveWire libraries and include a Highland Tea.

Each member of the winning team who successfully works out whodunnit will receive a copy of an Ann Cleeves novel.

After crime, comes justice and Cheshire Police will be bringing exhibits from the Warrington-based Museum of Policing in Cheshire to Penketh Library on Saturday April 29, from 10am to 1pm.

There will be an exhibition of police memorabilia and budding bobbies will have the chance to try on uniforms and helmets and have their fingerprints taken.

Visitors can meet their local officers and there will be a children’s whodunit as well as police-themed crafts. Entry is free and there is no need to book.

The final event in the ‘Crime in Penketh’ trilogy is a showing of the film noir classic Double Indemnity, presented in conjunction with Culture Warrington as part of its ‘Paint it Black’ season on Thursday May 11.

Doors open at 7pm and tickets are £3 and available online from pyramidparrhall.com (subject to booking fee) or from any LiveWire library.

Susan Morris, Lead LiveWire Advisor at Penketh Library, said: “We are really excited to be breaking new ground at Penketh Library with a live action performance, the Museum of Policing in Cheshire, and certainly the first time it’s been used as a cinema.”
