MP alarmed at dwindling numbers of GPs

THE number of GPs in Warrington is falling – despite promises by the Government to increase the number of family doctors.
There is now just 49 full-time equivalent GPs per 100,000 population, compared with 66 in 2014.
The fall has alarmed Warrington North MP Helen Jones – who notes that the number is fewer than the average number for England or the North West.
The MP said: “At a time when hospitals are desperately trying to reduce strain on their Accident and Emergency departments, I am deeply concerned that we continue to see a fall in the number of GPs per 100,000 in Warrington.
“My constituents regularly tell me that they are unable to book appointments at their local surgeries. This is in no way the fault of our hard-working GPs, yet represents a failure of this Government to adequately fund our National Health Service.”
