TWO men posing as council workers got away with an elderly woman’s handbag at Warrington – even though they were challenged to produce ID cards.
The pair called at the woman’s home in the Cabul Close area, claimed to be council workers and said they were investigating an explosion in the area.
They said they needed to examine the woman’s boiler.
The woman asked to see some form of identification but they said they didn’t have any but it was an emergency.
They gained admission – and stole the woman’s handbag before running off leaving her extremely distressed.
One man was about 5ft 4 inches tall, slim with black hair and a moustache. He was said to be “very smart.”
The second man was about 5ft 10 inches tall, stocky and was wearing a dark coloured jersey and jeans. He was in his late teens.
Police have appealed for help from the public. Anyone who recognises the men or who has seen them in the area should call DC Jess Jarvis on 01244 615818 or 0845 458 0000.
The burglary took place at Saturday, January 17.
