A £5.2 million grant will help provide 90 new “affordable” homes for Warrington residents.
Twenty six three-bedroom houses and 64 apartments are to be built at Carrington Park, made possible by the funding from The Homes and Communities Agency.
The money will allow local individuals and families in housing need access to brand new rented homes.
Coun Bob Barr, (pictured) the borough council’s executive member for planning, regeneration and housing said: “In recent years housing costs have gone up and with the current credit crunch it has become more difficult for local people to buy or rent properties.
“As a local authority, we can’t control the housing market, but we are committed to increasing the supply of good quality affordable housing for people who are unable to buy or rent suitable property on the open market.”
He said the scheme brings the total funding from the agency to £14.76 million, providing 296 homes in Warrington.
Coun Barr said: “These schemes not only provide homes for local residents, but also support employment and construction jobs in these difficult times.”
Details of the new homes will be available on www.chooseahome.org.uk a website that allows prospective residents to proactively apply for a new home instead of going on a waiting list.
The new homes will become available during April and September.
