A BILL to end fuel poverty has received support from a Warrington Prospective Parliamentary candidate.
Coun Jo Crotty, Liberal Democrat candidate for Warrington South, is backing MP David Heath’s proposed Fuel Poverty Bill.
It

aims to legislate for two key measures – a programme to bring existing homes up to the current energy efficiency levels of modern homes and social payment tariffs to limit vulnerable households’ exposure to high-energy bills.
Coun Crotty said: “These proposals will make a real difference to pensioners and others struggling to pay their energy bills in Warrington as well as having a positive effect on the environment. It will make a real difference to the estimated five million households nationally who are faced with the terrible choice between heating and eating this winter.
“The bill would also provide a much-needed boost to the local construction industry struggling in the recession.”
She called for all parties and the two MPs in Warrington to support the bill when it is debated in the House of Commons. She said charities and campaign groups, including Help the Aged, Friends of the Earth, Consumer Focus and the Association for the Conservation of Energy, were also supporting the bill.
