A STUDY and public consultation will look at redevelopment and revitalisation of a major Warrington park.
The study, which is part of ongoing regeneration in the town, will look at development of the historic Sankey Canal and the surrounding Sankey Valley Park..
It will consider opportunities for improved access and recreation such as water based interests

and activities.
Options will be considered options for replacing attractions lost over the years such as children’s play areas, heritage features and ranger/ visitor centres. Part of the study will focus on fishing and angling opportunities and facilities in the area.
Park and canal users, interest groups, local business and a wide range of other agencies will all be consulted.
Coun Alan Litton, the borough council’s executive member for environment services, said: “This is an exciting project which will benefit not only the people of west Warrington, but the whole community.
“Access to parks and open spaces with opportunities to play, take exercise and relax with nature can greatly increase people’s physical and emotional health. We are committed to investing in this project in partnership with the Environment Agency.”
Oliver Southgate, Environment Agency fisheries officer, said: “We are sponsoring this fantastic project with Warrington Borough Council to help deliver our vision of a better environment for everybody to enjoy.
“By investing in, and improving local environments, people can visit and enjoy local nature spots, such as Sankey Valley, which has the potential to be a fabulous place for people to take part in recreation activities.”
Funding for the project is being provided by the Environment Agency.
