Police running group wins £300 grant

WARRINGTON-based initiative Five 0 Runners has won a £300 grant from Police Mutual – the police’s financial services organisation.
The money will pay for personalised running tops, allowing onlookers and the community generally to be aware of the group.
Five 0 Runners was founded by three police officers and two PCSOs in February last year, including Tony Davidson.
They decided to improve their fitness levels by jogging, invited friends and family to join in and saw membership soar to 47.
Now they train at least once a week and take part in events, including marathons.
They have taken part in events locally – with a Warrington running group and with mental health charity Mind – and in Carlisle, Southport, St Helens and Liverpool.
Tony said: “It’s free and there’s no pressure to run at any time, you can just watch or ask for advice. We run at the pace of the slowest member.”
Five 0 Runners have organised two mental health and wellbeing runs and hopes to pass on the idea that general wellbeing can help with mental health issues.
