FAMILY, friends and customers have provided a commemorative bench in Warrington Market in memory a popular trader who died last year.
Russell Willis, who ran the Sausage Shop with his wife Sharon, died on September 12, aged 51. He was a market trader for 10 years and was very popular with traders and customers.
Russell – better known as Russ – had a variety of careers before setting up in the market, including being a pub landlord at the Old Ball, Winwick Road.
He loved horse racing and was a keen fan of Stoke City Football Club, having met Gordon Banks on many occasions.
Market manager Steve Pickering said: “Russ was the only person I’ve met who could talk for an hour on the delights of a sausage.”
Russ was due to represent the market in an exchange visit with the twin town Hilden in Germany, selling sausages to the Germans.
Picture shows Russ’ widow Sharon and grandson Connor, aged three, at the launch of the bench with The Mayor and Mayoress of Warrington, Graham and Elaine Welborn.
