Station closed as person killed by train at Birchwood

EMERGENCY services were called to Birchwood Station, Warrington, shortly after 3pm today (Saturday) following reports that a person had been killed after being hit by a train.

The incident was reported at 3.06pm and police warned members of the public to stay away from the station which was closed following the incident.

British Transport Police confirmed the coroner has been informed.

Cheshire Police advised members of the public seeking to use the station to make alternative arrangements and to avoid the area.

The incident resulted in some rail services being terminated.
