A NEW, £70,000 woodland-themed playground has opened in Warrington’s Woolston Park.
The existing Poulton Crescent Play area has been completely refurbished, with a range of sparkling, new play equipment, brand new furniture and improved accessibility.
Aimed at children aged two to eight, the project has given a new lease of life to this part of Woolston Park which has been renamed the Lime Tree Play Area by the Friends of the Park.
Cllr Tony Higgins, the borough council’s lead member for culture, leisure and community, said: “This fantastic new play area is part of our ongoing investment in our parks and green spaces.
“Children and families can look forward to a much more colourful, exciting, safe and accessible play area. It’s yet another great reason for local people to get out and about and enjoy some fresh air and exercise at Woolston Park.”
Grant funding of £50,000 was awarded by WREN’s FCC Community Action Fund for the scheme, which started on site at end of October. The council contributed a further £20,000 towards the project.
Richard Smith, WREN’s grant manager for Warrington, said: “It’s wonderful to see something we have funded finally open and ready to make such a difference to children and young people across Woolston. WREN is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that benefit
local communities and this is a great example of what can be achieved.”
*WREN is a not-for-profit business that awards grants to community, environmental and heritage projects across the UK from funds donated by FCC Environment as part of a voluntary environmental tax credit scheme.
