Town to target litterbugs

A HARD-hitting campaign hits the streets of Warrington next week to cut down the amount of fast food litter in the town.
Warrington Borough Council, the Town Centre Management team and Cheshire Police are taking part in the national awareness raising campaign from Monday to Friday.
It aims to reduce the amount of takeaway trash clogging the streets.
Coun Alan Litton, (pictured) the borough council’s executive member for environment services, said: “Litter is a growing problem, not just in Warrington but nationwide. It can bring an area down, making it look neglected and dirty.
“We hope this action week will show how seriously we take this problem and will encourage local residents to take pride in their town. We need their help to make the streets of Warrington cleaner and the town a nicer place to live and work.”
It is estimated that three quarters of a ton of litter is removed from town centre streets on a daily basis, which is over 273 tonnes a year.
The accumulated litter collected during one day will be on display in a van parked on Market Gate.

  1. Three cheers for W.B.C for highlighting the problem with the litter problem around fast food outlets, I have noticed the vast amount of litter from the Subway outlet on the A57/Manchester rd Woolston,

These businesses promiss to keep the area clear of litter when applying for planning permision but soon forget as soon as there up and running.

Lets hope its not just paper talk.
