TOWN Hall chiefs at Warrington  will be asked next week to approve a 4.98 per cent council tax increase – resulting in a council tax of £1,553 for the average Band D house  when the forecast police and fire service precepts  are added.
But people living in the parished areas of the borough will have to pay more, depending on the precept levied by their local parish council.
The final council tax for a Band D house in the various parts of the borough is likely to be as follows: Appleton: £1,578.63; Birchwood: £1,651.75; Burtonwood and Westbrook:  £1,576.34; Croft: £1,628.16;  Cuerdley: £1,553.63; Culcheth and Glazebury: £1584.45; Grappenhall and Thelwall: £1,591.56; Great Sankey: £1,587.13; Hatton: £1,567.77; Lymm:  £1,584.67; Penketh: £1,616.50; Poulton-with-Fearnhead: £1,573.70; Rixton-with-Glazebrook: £1,585.77; Stockton Heath: £1,593.63; Stretton: £1,575.05; Walton: £1,564.26; Winwick: £1,614.88; Woolston: £1,561.76.
A report to the council’s executive board indicates that the proposed budget included £8 million savings.

  1. Am I right in thinking that due to the commission boundary changes (grrr) and the fact that some of Walton now comes under Stockton Heath that those who have previously been Walton (like me for the the past 25 years)…will not only be going up due to the councils 4.98% increase but also up even more because Stockton Heath’s Parish Council charge a higher precept than Walton?

I’ve just looked on the band charge for 2016/17 (based on band D like the council like to use as their standard when talking about increases) with that compared with the above new figures plus the change of boundary it seems that Band D (was Walton not Stockton Heath) may be paying just short of £100 a year MORE this year.

    Ouch !!!!

The boundary changes only affected allocation to the borough council wards. There is still a precept listed next year for Walton of £10.63 (Band D) as opposed to £40.00 for Stockton Heath. Your precept should be set by Walton, predicted at £1326.53 for Band D.
