Explosions reported as fire breaks out at Parry’s Paints

EXPLOSIONS were heard as a large scale fire broke out at Parry’s Paints next to Warrington Town Football Club during the night. 

Video and pictures of the fire were taken by eye witnesses who reported hearing loud bangs before flames were seen leaping into the sky.

Firefighters from from Stockton Heath, Warrington, Penketh, Widnes, Birchwood and Chester were called to the blaze on Station Road, Latchford at 11.03pm and are currently tackling the blaze. Paints and thinners are believed to be causing the explosions.

When they arrived crews were confronted with a blaze involving some cabins that were believed to contain pumps. Extra fire engines have been called to the scene to ensure that the fire can be dealt with safely. They are currently battling the fire with main water and hose reel jets.

People living nearby are advised to keep their windows and doors shut. There is also some congestion on the road and so if you can avoid the area please do.

Crews are likely to be at the scene for some time.

Shortly before 8am today (Friday), the B5156 Station Road, Latchford was closed in both directions between the Grammar School Road junction and the A50 Knutsford Road junction as fire crews continued with damping down operations and investigations were carried out into the cause of the blaze.

Knutsford Road and Grammar School Road were also affected and police were advising motorists to avoid the area.
