Road closed as gritter crashes

1

A ROAD was closed for two hours after a gritting vehicle overturned and spilled oil onto the road surface.
The incident was in Fennel Street, Warrington shortly before 6pm last night (Sunday).
Fire crews stood by as breakdown crews worked to right the vehicle and remove it safely from the scene.
About two thirds of the vehicle’s load of grit was still intact. The driver escaped unhurt.
A fire service spokesman said the vehicle was on its side when they reached the scene and it was necessary to close the road for about two hours while oil was cleared away.
The vehicle is thought to have skidded on an icy patch.

  1. Is it any wonder this happened when you see gritters tear-arsing about like they do. Yes, I know they have to get roads gritted sharp(ish), but it’s better to get it done SAFELY and IN ONE PIECE than not at all.
