It’s Dignity Action Day on February 1, a national initiative led by the National Dignity Council – with backing from  Warrington Borough Council.

More than two million health and social care staff in the UK work around the clock to provide support and care for those in need. The day provides the opportunity to organise a truly memorable day for those who receive care services.

In addition to the services  care homes in Warrington provide on a daily basis, some will be celebrating the day with a special event for residents, their families and friends, to promote dignity in care.

  • At Holcroft Grange in Culcheth, children from St Lewis`s Primary School, Croft, will be visiting the home to carry out various activities including making a digni-tree and discussing what dignity means.
  • The Old Vicarage in Burtonwood will be holding a ‘wedding day’ celebration. Staff and residents will dress up as brides, grooms and wedding guests, wearing hats and buttonholes and they will enjoy a special buffet tea.
  • Woodleigh in Callands are holding a masquerade ball afternoon where all residents, families, friends and staff will dress up in their best attire and party throughout the afternoon. There will also be an awards ceremony for residents.
  • Padgate House will hold a Dignity tea party.
  • Victoria House in Grappenhall will make a digni-tree and residents will be given the opportunity to describe what dignity means to them, and their comments will be hung on the tree. This will be followed by a digni-tea and cake and a chat about dignity.
  • Brampton Lodge in Appleton will hold an afternoon of entertainment with a special buffet
  • Heathercroft in Woolston will hold a series of events over four days including: a Territorial Army history talk, a sing song by pupils from Woolston Primary School, a performance by the Marganettes Morris Dancing Troop and musical entertainment by a ukulele band.

Cllr Pat Wright, the council’s lead member for health and adult social care, said: “Dignity Action Day aims to ensure people who use care services are treated as individuals and are given choice, control and a sense of purpose in their daily lives.

“This important day is a reminder that we all have a role to play in ensuring the dignity of vulnerable adults in our community, it’s not just the responsibility of the very hard working staff in health and social care. All of us have a duty to work together to make sure our elderly and vulnerable residents are included, supported and respected.”
