Council to host business event

A SPECIAL event is being hosted by Warrington Borough Council to give local businesses the opportunity to find out more about how to succeed during this challenging financial climate.

The business breakfast will take place 8am on February 1  at Warrington Town Hall – part of the council’s wider consultation over its four-year budget, which will be set at the end of next month.

Co-hosted by the council’s executive board member for finance, Cllr Russ Bowden, and director for finance Lynton Green, it will give local businesses the chance to discover more about the council’s efforts to support the local economy.

In addition, Business leaders will be informed on the council’s four-year plan to achieve major savings and protect services, while delivering a balanced budget.

Cllr Bowden said: “The council is in the process of setting its first-ever four-year budget. Having experienced £92million in budget cuts since 2010, we must save at least a further £41million by 2020. There’s never been a more important time for all of us to work together towards a prosperous future for the borough.

“It’s vital that the council’s relationship with local business remains strong. This event will give us the opportunity to set out our plans to businesses and explain the challenges facing us, as well as forging new links and sharing ideas and innovation.”

Cllr Bowden and Lynton Green will be joined at the event by the council’s director for economic regeneration, Andy Farrall, who will be on-hand to answer questions about a range of key topics, including Warrington’s ambitious regeneration plans.
