Schools to lose out on funding – MP

1

EVERY school in North Warrington will lose out under the government’s new national funding formula for schools, according to figures produced by the National Union of Teachers.
Secondary schools will lose up to £4098 per pupil and some primary schools will lost more than £600 per pupil.
The figures have infuriated Warrington North MP Helen Jones.
She said: “For years we have been told by the Tories that a new funding formula would benefit Warrington. Now we see that the opposite is the case.
“Secondary schools in Warrington North are losing up to £409 per pupil. Some primary schools are losing over £600 per pupil.
“This means that schools risk losing teachers or restricting the curriculum they offer. This is an outrageous attack on our children’s future.
“ Theresa May talks about social mobility but the best engine of social mobility is a good education and her government refuses to invest in Warrington North’s children.
“Instead of wasting time thinking about more grammar schools the government should be funding our current schools properly.”

  1. Thanks to an ‘infuriated’ Helen and her team for cutting and pasting some figures for our benefit from a report produced by the NUT. Begs the question though. Now what? A call to David Mowatt perhaps to arrange a pow wow with the relevant minister? With an invite to the council leader, portfolio holder and education chiefs. It might prove fruitless but as the saying goes ‘nothing ventured nothing gained’ Over to you Helen.
