Sea anglers seek new members

WARRINGTON Sea Anglers are trawling the town for new members.
The club – which has just celebrated its 10th birthday – has lost a number of members over the last year and is anxious to attract new blood.
Spokesman Ken Whibley said: “We are a friendly bunch, drawn together by a love of sea angling and not put off by the fact that Warrington is a good way from the sea.
“Many of us are also members of local angling clubs but happen to like sea angling as well.”
The club meets on the last Wednesday of each month at the Marquis of Granby pub in Church Street, Warrington to discuss trips out, swap stories and offer tips.
Trips are organised in England, Wales and Scotland – but mainly in Wales which is why the club is affiliated to the Welsh Federation of Sea Anglers (WFSA).
In fact, the current WFSA record for Spurdog – 18lb – is held by the late Trevor Lockwood, (pictured) who was a long-standing club member.
Ken said: “We would welcome any new members. We already have 10 trips organised for 2009, including a three-day trip to the Isle of Man.”
The club’s annual meeting is on January 10 at 1.30pm at the Marquis of Granby.
Anyone interested can contact Ken on 01925 417294, Dave Lawless on 01925 653700 or Alan Hilton on 01925 487360.
