ACE maths students from Warrington are celebrating after scooping awards in a national competition.
A total of 34 students from Priestley College sat the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) papers – and 10 won awards.
Kim Steele and Matthew Cretney won gold awards and Miles Caddick, Suzanne Helliwell, Zoe Matley, Ryan Goodwin and Jonathan Speed all collected silver. There were also bronze awards for Ashlea Hughes, Jessica Bratchell and Michael Townshend.
Interest in maths is at an all-time high at the college, with good results and a range of courses on offer.
Head of maths Wendy Brennan said: “The UKMT challenges have now become a regular yearly event on campus. Not only do they test the students’ problem solving ability but it also encourages interest in studying the subject further.”
College principal Mike Southworth said: “I was very pleased to hear of the success achieved by our maths students in this national challenge. Priestley has always had a rich tradition in the contest but this year’s entrants have really surpassed themselves.”
