A CRICKET club has been bowled a bouncer by planning chiefs.
Grappenhall Cricket Club has been refused planning consent for three shipping containers at the rear of the pavilion at their ground in Broad Lane, Grappenhall.
The problem is – the containers are already there!
Club officials made a retrospective application for permission for the containers, which are used for storing equipment. But nearby residents, and Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council, lodged objections.
Members of the borough’s development control committee visited the ground before reaching a decision – but then decided the containers were inappropriate in the Green Belt.
However, the club has been given hope it might do better if it chooses to go in for a second innings.
Councillors dropped a hint that if one of the containers was removed they might be prepared to have a re-think.
