New Balance, the global athletic footwear and apparel brand, has teamed up with Active Cheshire to introduce an exciting and innovative programme to encourage more school aged children to get active.

The new scheme is part of New Balance SparkStart, a global charitable initiative focused on improving the health, well-being and self-esteem of children through movement.

NB SparkStart aims to inspire millions of children around the world to discover and nurture their active lifestyle, starting with the New Balance 100 mile challenge.

This fits perfectly with Active Cheshire’s mission to get 50,000 more people, more active, more often in Cheshire and Warrington by 2017.

Seven primary schools in Warrington have joined the challenge to encourage more young people to improve their health, wellbeing and self-esteem through movement and being more physically active.

The challenge will run throughout the 2016/17 academic year and pupils can reach the target by running, walking, jogging and cycling 100 miles during the period in school or at home.

Participating schools will record each pupil’s miles and as a reward schools and participating pupils will receive some exciting prizes along the way.

Laura Woodburn, HR Advisor for New Balance, said: “We are proud to be inspiring young people to be more physically active by taking part in the New Balance 100 Mile Challenge as part of the Sparkstart programme.

“We hope that the schools continue to encourage their pupils to take part so that as many children as possible can complete the full 100 miles!”

Anne Boyd, CEO of Active Cheshire added: “We are delighted that the staff and children of these seven Warrington schools are embracing this challenge.

“The 100 Mile Challenge embeds ‘active habits’ with children and working with New Balance has meant we could get local children doing this in an accessible and engaging way.

“We would particularly like to thank New Balance for partnering with Active Cheshire to deliver SparkStart locally for the third year running.”
