YOUNG volunteer workers who helped spruce up the headquarters of the Warrington and Widnes Society for the Blind have received special certificates from the society.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Warrington, Graham and Elaine Welborn, presented the certificates at a ceremony at the Rex Furness Centre in Museum Street.
The youngers, members of The Princes Trust Groundwork Team, organised through Cheshire Fire Service, painted a mural in the stage area of the centre and also carried out work in the garden.
It was part of a general improvement scheme for the premises, with the interior being painted earlier as part of a project organised by Warrington Probation Service.
Society chairman John Taylor said the building looked “much better” as a result of the work.
However, because of the age and condition of the centre, the executive had decided the society had to look, in the longer term, to relocate to a more suitable building in the Warrington area.
Mr Taylor said: “A new building will enable us to better serve the needs of our members, attract new people and provide new services.
“Initial costings suggest that we will need around £1,000,000.
“We have now started to look at fund raising for this major project and anyone who would like to help should get in touch with me.
“As a non-profit making charity dealing with the everyday needs and problems of visually impaired people and their families, our main interest is the well being of our members and the effectiveness of the support we can give them.”
