Empty homes in the spotlight

EMPTY homes are in the spotlight at Warrington this week.
The borough council’s private sector housing team will be at the eco hut in the market on Friday, November 28, from 9am until 3pm, as part of national Empty Homes Week.
Organised by the Empty Homes Agency, an independent campaigning charity, the aim of the week is to highlight the levels and wastage of empty property in England.
The charity estimates there are around 660,000 empty homes across the country today, nearly half of which have been vacant long-term.
A council spokeswoman said: “Empty homes are not only a neglected yet valuable resource, they can also become a source of anxiety for neighbours attracting vandalism and squatters.”
Residents are invited to go along and chat to staff about any vacant house in their area or to seek help if they own a vacant home in the borough, to see how the council can help renovate it and bring it back into use.
